REFRACTOMETERS AND POLARIMETERS

Refractometers and polarimeters are used to measure a substance's optical properties. Refractometers measure the refractive index of a liquid or solid, providing information about its composition and purity in applications as diverse as the analysis of sugar, honey, salt, wine, beer, alcohol, coffee, urine, batteries, among others. A polarimeter measures the angle of optical rotation, which is important for purity determinations in sugar refining and the production of fine chemicals, food additives and pharmaceuticals.
