BURNERS

Burners are small laboratory devices that produce a controlled, adjustable flame that is mainly used to heat, melt, eliminate or sterilise materials. The classic alcohol burner consists of a glass container filled with alcohol and a wick inserted in the lid to produce a flame. Metal Bunsen burners consist of a vertical tube with a hole acting as an air intake and another hole at the base connected to a rubber tube to supply a flow of a flammable gas from a small cylinder. They may have an adjustable air vent to control the height and intensity of the flame. Battery-powered electronic burners work with small gas cartridges and are ideal for use inside laboratory fume cupboards.
