DEHYDRATED AND PREPARED CULTURE MEDIA

Bacterial culture media are mixtures of nutrients, minerals and other elements ideal for the growth of microorganisms. Depending on each culture's composition, it promotes or inhibits the growth of a specific microorganism or group of microorganisms. There are two main types, solid and liquid media. Solid media contain the solidifying agent agar, whereas liquid media, which are also called broths, don't. The bacterial cultures are available in dehydrated or ready-to-use formats. The dehydrated format is a mixture of all the elements in a powder that must be rehydrated and sterilised, while the medium is already hydrated in the ready-to-use format.
