Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have emerged as global contaminants of great concern due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and potential adverse effects on human health and the environment.
These synthetic chemical compounds, with extremely stable carbon-fluorine bonds, have been used for decades in the manufacture of packaging, non-stick coatings, clothing, etc., but they are associated with certain risks to human health. They are also known as 'forever chemicals'.
Given this growing regulatory and legislative focus, the need for accurate analyses free from background contamination has increased.
